The first scene shows Adele as a young child as she and her mother walk home through the neighborhood. They then confront Adele's color blindness to blue, as she is unable to see any blue in the sky. Her mother then tells her that the sky is blue and that it will be alright. The scene ends with a close up on her left eye and a fade to black. As an adolescent, Adele (Adèle Exarchopoulos) goes on a vacation for summer vacation with her lesbian partner and roommate Emma (Seydoux). When they return home, Emma confesses to Adele that she has been seeing someone else during their time away from each other for two weeks. After this, Adele falls into a depression, where she breaks-up with her partner and loses her job. On the day of Emma's birthday, she confides in Adele that she has fallen for someone else. She says that she deserves more than Adele can give her and that their relationship was not what she had imagined it to be. At this point in the film, the audience sees that Adele is now out of college and working at a call center. Adèle encounters Emma on the street while walking home with an armful of birthday gifts for Emma (flowers, chocolate bars, etc.). Emma tells her she is happy, and that they're friends. Emma then invites Adele in to her apartment. When they reach Emma's apartment, Emma shows Adele pictures of herself with Abdel (Salim Kechiouche). She tells her that he is older than her and that he is "like a brother" to her, but that he has never seen them kiss. Adele accepts this offer and the two proceed to go on the date. They go over to Abdel's house, where they meet his wife Léa (Cécile de France), who knows Adele through work. cfa1e77820
